Pyramid Tea Bags

The first Pyramid Tea Bags were introduced in the mid 1990's by Lipton teas. These bags were designed to address the concerns of tea experts that the tightly packed square bags did not allow tea to properly brew or steep. The criticism was that the tea needs to be allowed to expand when exposed to hot water in order to properly brew a flavorful tea. As we all know traditional tea bags are oftentimes packed tight with tea. The pyramid bags allowed for the extra expansion of the tea during brewing.

Since their initial introduction from Lipton, pyramid shaped tea bags have become very popular and are produced by almost every major tea bag manufacturer. The exact shape of the pyramid is different, but the extra room in the bag is consistent amongst all of these pyramid tea bag makers.

One of my favorite pyramid tea bags is the Herbal Tea-Licious bag. This is a tea bag that literally is the shape of a tall pyramid and it even comes in a pyramid shaped box. Each teabag is packaged separately in its own pyramid box. These are very attractive and a great addition to a fun table setting. The teas are around a dollar per bag, which although not cheap, it is a small price to pay for such great presentation.

Another fun pyramid tea bag is from Eden Grove. They do not call their bags pyramids but instead have opted for using the synonym of prisms. Eden Grove packages 24 tea bags together in a clear box. The box has a fancy ribbon around it. Each bag within the box is wrapped in a very colorful wrapper. Therefore the Eden Grove prisms make a great gift because they look so fun with the clear box showing the 24 colorfully wrapped prisms inside. The tea itself is not bad either. The box includes an assortment of tea flavors.

One more company that makes pyramid tea bags but uses a different name is Octavia. The Octavia sweet berry dreams tea comes in what they call a sachet bag. These bags of course look similar to the Lipton pyramid bags but with a different name. The Octavia tea is packaged in a tall silver tin and also looks elegant for any kitchen.

No matter what type of pyramid tea bags you choose, you should have fun in knowing that this is the latest innovation in tea bags. They produce a better cup of tea and are one small step short of using an actual tea infuser.
