I have found it is better to find an artist at a craft fair and then to look for their products online. The one unique place that tailors to artisans is etsy. I have found a lot of very nice pottery tea sets available on etsy.
For example, I found a great looking handmade award winning four cup tea setting on etsy. This was an incredible set and best of all it is one of a kind. The set included the teapot, sugar and creamer, four cups, four saucers, four pastry plates, a large serving platter and four dinner plates. The design was simple and the quality of the pottery was superb. This was not your typical baked clay pottery but a pottery that bettered even high quality machine made ceramics. The overall set was $150 and worth every penny paid.
Pottery tea sets like the one I found on etsy or ones you can find at stores or craft fairs are wonderful to have in your home. The most attractive part is not only the incredible value for hand made items, but that the items you are buying are one of a kind. The fact that they are unique and made by a specific artisan can also serve as a conversation piece while enjoying the tea.
