Hibiscus Tea And Blood Pressure

How often is it that we get to report that a department within the United States government actually confirms that a natural food can benefit a persons health? It seems that the government is oftentimes more interested in discounting claims than in promoting them. But when it comes to Hibiscus Tea And Blood Pressure, the US government has confirmed that the tea does contribute to lower blood pressure.

The confirmation of the correlation between hibiscus tea and blood pressure was the result of a clinical study. The study was presented by a nutrition scientist during a conference of the American Heart Association. The research was funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. The study was a clinical trial of over 60 participants all of whom were between thirty and seventy years old. All of the participants had high enough blood pressure that it put them at increased risk for heart disease, kidney failure, or even a stroke.

The participants were split into two groups with the primary group being given hibiscus tea to drink and the other group a placebo. The study lasted over six weeks and the participants were asked to drink three cups of the tea or placebo per day. The blood pressure of the participants was checked and recorded weekly. By the end of the study it was found that the hibiscus tea drinkers had a 600 percent greater decrease in blood pressure than the placebo group. There was a sub-group within the study of those with the highest blood pressure in the group, they had an even larger benefit from the tea when compared to the overall group.

In the end it was concluded that there is a correlation between hibiscus tea and blood pressure. Where if you drink hibiscus tea three times per day you will likely benefit from having lower blood pressure. This effect seems to be amplified by higher blood pressure. In other words, the higher the blood pressure the more the benefit from the hibiscus tea.

This is not to say that you should not continue to take high blood pressure medication and simply drink hibiscus tea. But it is enough for you to approach your doctor, cite the study, and discuss with them if drinking hibiscus tea may help with your high blood pressure. It is always good to consult a doctor before starting anything new, especially when it comes to your health and a pre-existing condition like high blood pressure.
